Mission Statement
The dedicated members of the Peabody Fire Department have made it our mission to respond to fires, medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, and protect the lives and property of Peabody residents and visitors. The Departments pursuit of public safety through its fire prevention, investigation and education programs give us the abilitiy to make significant contributions to the safety of the citizens of Massachusetts and enhances our abilities to keep our homeland safe.
Who We Are
The Peabody Fire Department is made up of the Chief, 4 Deputy Chiefs, 10 Captains, 8 Lieutenants, 88 Firefighters,1 Training Officer,1 Fire Prevention Officer, 2 Fire Inspectors, 2 Fire Alarm Staff and 3 Adminstration Personel.
We respond to an average of 7500 calls per year, for fires, medical emergencies, natural and man made disasters, motor vehicle accidents and various other emergency and non-emergency situations.

Headquarters
41 Lowell St
Peabody Fire Headquarters was built in 1873 and is the oldest continuously operated fire headquarters in the world. It is home to our dispatch center, fire alarm division, Car 2 (Depty Chief), Engine 1, Ladder 1 and fire alrarms bucket truck. We also house Technical Rescue, Mass Decon,Air Supply, ATV and Pump out support units at this station.

The Lynn St fire station was built in 1962 after the station before it burnt down, It is home to Engine 5.

Appointments must be made prior to the inspection date
To setup an appointment in person at the FP Office, we need the following information:
Current Owner’s Name
Year the house was built
Year any MAJOR renovations occurred. If major renovations have occured, then an electrician must obtain a permit.

No fee
Valid for two consecutive days with weather permitting (see attached instructions when permit is obtained)
Permits may be revoked by the Fire Department at any time as conditions warrant.
Valid from January 15th to May 1st
$10 fee
Valid for 30 days unless being used continuously for purpose of conducting business; expires annually April 15th
Permit must be obtained by welder only
A firewatch may be required at the discretion of the Fire Prevention Officers
If a firewatch is required:
24hr notice is needed for all fire details
Payment is due within 30 days of the date of the invoice
Valid for 30 days (Residential)
Valid for 1 year (Commercial) expires annually April 15th
The name of the dumpster company and address is required to obtain a permit
All dumpsters must be placed 5 feet from the property and off the street
Valid for 1 year, expires annually on April 15th.
A list of all flammables and the quantity being stored is required.

A set of plans and system specifications are required
Fee according to tank size
The amount being stored and location is required
Valid for 1 year, expires annually on April 15th
A Form 1 Permit can be mailed in or dropped off at the Fire Prevention Office
Combustion test must be completed on the permit
Homeowner or Installing Company must call to schedule an appointment after the permit has been filed except as provided for in Mass Fire Prevention Regulations CMR 527 no tank may be abandoned, a permit is required by the Fire Department for the removal.

A set of Fire Alarm plans and a narrative stating the scope of work must be provided to obtain a permit along with a valid license.

A set of Sprinkler plans, hydraulic calculations along with a narrative stating the scope of work must be provided to obtain a permit along with a valid Sprinkler Contractor’s license.

To obtain a copy of a fire report, please put the request in writing along with the date of the incident, the location of the incident, the owner(s) of the property, and any other pertinent information.
An appointment is required with the Fire Prevention Officer with the owner(s) of stolen and/or burned motor vehicle regarding the completion of Forms 33C and 33D.

If the tank is underground, a Dig Safe number is required
Permit must be obtained prior to the tank removal
Tank must be inspected the day of removal before being taken off the property

Tank Truck Inspections are valid for two years.
You must provide a copy of the vehicle registration, the location where the vehicle is parked overnight and the amount being stored prior to the appointment.
