Built in 1873 and Remodeled in 1988.
The Dispatch Center is in the 1 story attached building to the left of the overhead doors.
This station is the home of Engine 1 and Ladder 1. Car 2, with the Shift Commander, is also housed in HQ. The tower in the right rear is used for hose drying.
The various fire stations in Peabody were well built and served for many years. The present central fire station was built in 1873 at a cost of $30,000. It was completely refurbished in 1988 at a cost of 1.5 million dollars and is listed as a National Historic Site. Before it was built, a steamer and ladder truck were housed on Foster Street. That building became the first police station in Peabody. We believe that the current station is the "Oldest", "Active", Fire Headquarters in the United States. We would be very interested if an older fire headquarters is still in operation.
