In New England we have some experience with winter storms. We should not get over confident about our ability to cope. A major winter storm can be lethal. Preparing for cold weather conditions and responding to them effectively can reduce the dangers caused by winter storms. Please check weather reports from the local broadcast media or watch the Weather Channel.

AFTER THE STORM:

  • While you have your shovel or snow blower out, why not see if an elderly or disabled neighbor could use a little help. Also, why not check to see if that neighbor needs a few errands done while you do yours.
  • Take your time clearing snow from walk ways and driveways. Take frequent breaks.
  • Never clear snow from a snow blower while the engine is running.
  • Turn off the engine before leaving the snow blower unattended.
  • Use sand or salt on icy walk ways.
