keeping an eye on cooking, check pot handles to make sure they're pointed
inwards to avoid spills. Watch children closely and make sure they learn
to cook safely.
Clean cooking area frequently to prevent grease buildup. Protect yourself by keeping towels, pot holders and curtains away from flames and hot surfaces. Always wear garments with short or close fitting sleeves. To one side, keep a pan lid handy to smother grease fires, and baking soda to extinguish other food fires. Never throw water on a grease fire or try to carry the pan from the house. Should a fire start in the oven or broiler, keep the door shut and turn off the heat. |
