Leonard V. Lucey

Leonard V. Lucey, 95, of Peabody, died late Thursday
evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief
illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Olga (Klemm) Lucey.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Flynn) Lucey. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody, attended St. John’s Grammar School, and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1929. During World War II, he enlisted with the United States Coast Guard and served from 1943 until his discharge in 1945. While in the Coast Guard, he worked on the fire boats. After his discharge from the Coast Guard, he worked for the city of Peabody for over 38 year as a firefighter, retiring as Deputy Chief in 1975. He also helped own and operate his wife’s family business, Klemm’s Bakery in Peabody. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council #508 and the Ancient Order of Hibernia’s both in Peabody. He also was a very active member of St. John’s Church in Peabody as well. He enjoyed spending time with his family and later especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Sandler of North Reading, his two grandchildren, Lindsay and Kelli Sandler, both of North Reading and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph and William Lucey, Rose Russell, Marguerite Polisson, and Mary Arnold. |
